Troubleshooting
Q:Why can't I install Rising
Personal Firewall in Windows 95?
A: In some operating systems (e.g. Windows 95)
without WinSock2 support, Rising Personal Firewall cannot
be installed. WinSock2 must be installed manually:
1.Open the Rising CD using Windows Explorer.
2.In the Tools directory, double-click WinSock2.exe
to install.
Q: How can I prevent others from
modifying my settings?
A: You can create a password to prevent others
from modifying your settings and exiting the program.
In Advanced Settings, check Password Protection
and set a password.
Q: How can I maximize my computer's
security?
A: Set the security level to High
and disable unnecessary IP rules.
Q: Why are some programs still
accessing the network even though I switched modes?
A: Programs that are already connected to the
network will stay connected when you switch modes to
avoid accidental disconnection. To maximize your security
exit unnecessary programs before switching modes.
Q: I accidently chose to deny
network access to an application. How can I allow access?
A: In Application rules, double-click the application
to be modified and select "Allow" for the appropriate
mode.
Q: Why can't I click the "Locate
IP" button?
A: This feature locates the originating IP address
of attacks to your computer. If no attacks have been
detected, this feature is not available.
Q: The firewall has notified me
about an attack. How can I find detailed information?
A: Click the "View Log" button and select "IP
Events" to find detailed information on attacks.
Q: Why do my logs seem to be taking up so much disk
space?
A: If any log records are not necessary, go to
Standard Settings, and uncheck under "Create Logs" any
logs that do not need to be recorded.
Q: All the prompt windows close
too quickly. How can I extend the display time?
A: To view detailed information and stop the
countdown, double-click the prompt window. You can change
the default prompt display time in Advanced Settings.
Q: When I launch the program,
an error message displays saying "Failure in Service
Communication". What should I do?
A: Try restarting the program, or if this fails,
re-install. If you continue to experience problems,
please contact Rising.
Q: Why can't some PCs in the local
network connect to my PC?
A: If any PC in your local network sends a virus-infected
data packet to your PC, Rising Personal Firewall will
identify it and deny the computer access to your PC
temporarily. You can find the relevant IP address in
the log.
Q: My Internet connection requires
authentication, and my security setting is set to High.
How can I establish a connection?
A: Add the IP of the authentication server to
your dial-up software. You can also switch to Medium
security level, but this will allow shared access to
your system. We suggest that you only allow the authenticated
server to share resources with you.
Q: Why can't I connect to a VPN
server?
A: Check "Allow VPN" in IP rules. If you are
using Microsoft's PPTP or L2TP, check the relevant boxes.
Q: How can I disable Windows Firewall
in Windows XP SP2?
A: In the Start menu, click
Run, type "Firewall.cpl", and then
click "OK". On the General tab, click
Off, and then click "OK".
Q: How can I connect to a LAN
printer?
A: On the computer directly connected to the
printer, set the firewall security level to Medium.
Or, open Detailed Settings and in Trusted
Zone, add the printer or the IP of the computer connected
to the printer.
